Rockoff Hall encompasses 186 apartment suites, a significant street level retail presence with national retailers, and additional space for Rutgers to utilize for student life activities. The downtown site ensures that student residents have direct access to bus routes running between Rutgers’ campuses, as well as proximity to all the amenities of the downtown. The multiple-use nature of the design meets the commercial, residential, and parking needs of the community while securing the economic feasibility of the project.
Pennrose designed and built Rockoff Hall with a true respect for the students as residents. Online surveys of hundreds of University students, meetings of student focus groups, and meetings with University staff over a two-year period drove the design team's carefully considered deciions with respect to unit plans, building amenities, furnishings, and rental rates. Everything was constructed to elevate the life style of college living. Responding to what the students, parents, and university staff desired in housing, the team’s design is much more akin to an upscale apartment building than a typical college dormitory.
